Ballooning in Cappococia

Apart from wanting to see the remarkable geology we promised ourselves a balloon ride, We are told, in Cappococia they go ballooning all year-round and only miss about 40 days a year, when the weather is deemed unsuitable! A balloon ride starts at dawn and therefore needs to be arranged at least the day before. The first morning it was snowing - hence no ballooning for that day, so we went underground, visiting one of the local underground cities built by early Christians, where they could live in comparative safety. We also drove round for over 100 km visiting local sites, a cave-monastery, and rock formations. On our second day we got to go Ballooning. Great experience too. All credit to Butterfly Ballooning for making sure our flight was made to look easy-peezy and exciting for all the right reasons! When Sue was asked to do a little hands-on flying just as we were landing................. her little arms were not quite long enough to reach the gas valve controls (relax we made it)! To complete the morning, Sue volunteered to help deflate the balloon (with a jig) followed by Cappodocian 'Champagne' and bickies. It's a tough life getting up that early for fun............ on April 1st too!
