After leaving Malta we headed due East towards Pylos, on the Greek Peloponnese. We left Grand Harbour, Malta, a little later than we would have preferred and knew, from Navtex reports, there were E'ly thunderstorms forecast. However, after checking internet Grib files, which showed very little winds, we decided it would be OK to go. As evening approached we realised we were going to get strong winds 'on the nose' from the ENE, As it materialised the next 48 hours were F6-7 on the nose, gusting 35+ kts at times. Not the best of conditions! (From now on 'Thunderstorms' = STORMS = to be avoided = stay put and wait!) It was not until the 3rd day, when the wind went to the N, were we able to benefit from a favourable sail, fortunately thereafter letting us sail the last 100 or so miles all the way to Pylos. We dropped the hook at the north end of Ormos Navarone at 0300, where we fully appreciated a good kip. Next day we sat on the hook doing some enforced repairs followed by evening G&T's. Sunday 13th we went alongside at Pylos and sampled local Greek food and wines, We've had two goes, thus far, at officially entering Greece. The local port police seem quite relaxed and have indicated they only want to deal with entry forms during their morning periods, turning up during the afternoon doesn't seem to inspire them into action. We can try again tomorrow, perhaps?
We're aiming to depart Pylos tomorrow, heading Southwards along the Peloponnese coast to another laid-back easy-come-easy-go hospitable bay or harbour. It's a month and 2,750 NM since we left Southampton and maybe just a few hundred more towards our winter destination, Kemer, Turkiye.......... One day at a time!
